For a Winter Night

Close the door, latch it shut tight
Bar it against the cold.
Don't let the warmth escape in the night
And make my poor bones feel old.

Stoke up the fire, poke it up hot.
Bask in its cheery glow.
Warm in our house, with you by my side
Who cares if the north wind may blow?

Blow out the candles, snuff out the lights,
The hearth gives what light we require.
With you by my side throughout the long night
I have everything I desire.
