Night Again

Night again, in camp once more
On a warm clear eve'
At the edge of the trees
Soft murmur of the leaves
Stirred by a vesper breeze
Sounds like a distant shore.

Brilliant stars arrayed above me
Familiar constellations,
Stories writ' in lights.
Myths of ancient nations
Parade across the night
As I lie, and muse, and see.

Now I lie alone in my tent
Lulled by night sounds
Heavy eyelids draw closed
As I lie on soft ground
And await night's repose
When another day is spent.
